Why personal certification?

Knowledge, which can recognised by a life long diploma, is very different to competence, in that the latter must be maintained and updated on a regular basis.

Furthermore, competence is based not only on training & education but equally on practical experience.

Personal certification is the tool which permits a regular and recognised acknowledgement of competence. As a result it is a precious tool servicing transparency and mobility.

Food Safety: the major stake in the Food Chain

Consumers are more and more sensitive to food safety. Major retailers have taken this into account by imposing a requirement that their suppliers implement certified Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS).

This approach is only reliable if the auditors certifying these management systems are highly competent. The users of FSMS certification therefore need to have proof that the auditors of their suppliers have a recognised and maintained level of expertise and professional training.

ISO 22000 - the internationally recognised standard

In response to this market pressure ISO developed ISO 22000 which is the first internationally recognised standard defining the requirements for a certifiable FSMS.

Other standards, private and limited to food processing only, are also available such as BRC and IFS for example.

To complement ISO 22000, ISO developed the ISO 22003 technical specification which defines the applicable requirements for a certification body of FSMS. This document includes the competence requirements for FSMS auditors according to ISO 22000 or other standards such as BRC or IFS.

I-Cube: at the heart of ISO 22000 & 22003 development

I-Cube is the only personal certification body which includes a member of the ISO working group for ISO 22000 and ISO 22003 as a member of its FSMS scheme committee.

The I-Cube FSMS - ISO 22000 Lead Auditor scheme thereby benefits from first hand information and interpretation of the standard directly from the creators of the standard itself.
