What is web-based training ?

Web-Based Training is "self-paced" training that is delivered using an Internet browser (source: Brandon Hall). Web based training falls into the category of distance learning, with the same objective; reduce face-to-face classroom time and all the inherent costs associated with this, without reducing the quality of the learning experience itself. Who is responsible for my course ?

Each course as a designated "tutor". You will meet your tutor virtually on the first page of each course. The tutor is a recognised trained teacher and/or expert who is contracted by the course organiser. The role of the tutor is to act as your guide throughout your learning experience. They will provide you with detailed instructions, ressources and assistance (via a forum) throughout your course. (Retour)

How do I access a course ?

You can sign up for a course by clicking here. The course organiser will than contact you to organise any administrative details and provide you with your access to the course. (Retour)

What software do I need ?

You only need to have an internet browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Safari...), as well as the standard desktop Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Acrobat Reader. (Retour)

How do I have to organize my time ?

One of the advantages of web based training is that you can access the course from anywhere with an internet access and organise your time as you see fit. The only constraint is that you are required to complete a course within a specified timeframe which is communicated to you by the course organiser before you start a course. This timeframe is generally calculated to ensure you do not have to commit more than 3-4 hours per week to your training. (Retour)

I can no longer access my course with my username / password. What do I do ?

Contact you course tutor directly. (Retour)

How are the courses organised ?

Our philosophy is not to just put course materials on the web, it is to provide you with a tutored and explicitly guided learning experience. The courses are structured into sessions, each one dedicated to a clearly defined learning objective and explanation of the importance of the subject matter. Each session is then subdivided into learning activities (background reading, practical case studies, exercises, multiple choices, etc….). (Retour)

How do I learn ?

The I-Cube courses follow the learning by doing philosophy. For this reason the learning activities often will ask you to complete an exercise: case study, quiz, commentary, brainstorming etc. For each exercise you are supplied with all the necessary resources (links, files etc.) and detailed instructions on how to proceed. Most exercises also have standard responses that you are free to consult, benchmark your answers against and comment on in the relevant forums. (Retour)

How can I get help ?

If you have any difficulty understanding any aspect of the learning process you can ask for help from your tutor by asking questions in the forums supplied to this effect. The forums are an area of exchange between you and your tutor but also a collaborative tool with other students following the same course. (Retour)

How do I evaluate my progress ?

Each course includes a certain number of auto-evaluation tools: quiz, multiple choice questions with answers, standard exercise responses, pre & post self tests etc. At all times if you are in doubt about your progress and or the validity of answers provided you can contact your tutor via the forums for clarification. Some courses also include "Knowlewdge Surveys", which allow you to assess your understanding of the course materials before and after you take the course and thereby establish how much you have progressed.
